Cialis vs Levitra

Many people think of Cialis and Levitra as strong counterparts when it comes to choosing a medication for treating erectile dysfunction. Both drugs are approved by the FDA for relieving the symptoms of male impotence and they were both introduced to the market back in 2003. It's evident that people started comparing these two drugs and looking for differences between Cialis, Levitra and Viagra. However, upon a closer inspection things get less categorical than you may think after seeing all the ads, and there are many similarities between these three drugs.

Similarities

So what is common between Cialis and Levitra (adding Viagra to the comparison by default)? First of all, both Cialis and Levitra are classified by the FDA as PDE-5 inhibitors, which is a drug class that is used for treating erectile dysfunction in men. Being from the same drug class means that Cialis and Levitra share the same mechanism of action and it's really so. Both drugs act by blocking the activity of PDE-5 enzyme and increasing the blood flow into the penile shaft that results in stronger and durable erections.

When people hear the facts from the previous passage they tend to get upset and start to believe that it's all a matter of marketing and pharmaceutical companies are selling the same thing under different labels. However, it's not true and there are certain differences that really make Cialis and Levitra two separate products.

Differences

Levitra and Cialis are based on different active elements that certainly act in the same way but deliver their effects to a different degree. Levitra is based on vardenafil, which delivers effects within 20-30 minutes after you have taken the drug and lasts for about 4-5 hours. Levitra can be taken with and without food and certain studies indicate that moderate amounts of alcohol do not influence its effectiveness. Cialis is based on tadafil, which starts working within 15 minutes after taking it and the effects last up to 36 hours (some studies indicate even 100 hours). So as it turns out the devil is in the details and having so much in common, Cialis and Levitra still have huge differences and the effectiveness of Cialis is far more superior.

Choosing which drug to buy in your fight against erectile dysfunction is up to you. Some people are OK with using Levitra, while others need the prolonged effects of Cialis. Ask your doctor which drug will work best for you and receive a prescription. After all, it's always good to have a choice.
